Brass, GRP and Phenolic Cutlass Bearings

We hold a huge range of cutlass bearings in stock in Palma, Mallorca. Although there are many different sizes of bearings in 3 materials, (brass, GRP and phenolic), we feel that it is important to hold as many in stock as possible as lead times to manufacture are often 5 to 8 weeks which is far too long if your boat has to go back in the water. Our aim is to deliver the same day.

For such a critical, performance bearing (after all, it houses your propeller shaft !) we specify and supply only the very best to ensure zero problems for the life of the bearing. This means using Exalto Ltd., UK made bearings with extremely rigid quality control and ABS certification.

We hold in stock everything from tiny 25mm to 5 1/2 inch shaft sizes. Cutlass bearings exist in either fully metric eg. 80 x 100mm or fully imperial eg. 2″ x 3″, or metric/imperial, eg. 80mm x 4 inch. Note that imperial/metric does NOT exist.

When measuring up to replace your bearings you need to be as accurate as possible and if the metric size is ´unusual´ eg. 76.2mm, then it is most likely imperial (3 inch).

In any case, we are here to help and will be pleased to come to your boat and help ensure that you have the correct sized bearings.

Cutlass bearings generally last between 3 and 5 years so make sure you check yours every time you come out of the water. A worn bearing will cause the propeller shaft to move around and could cause vibration or overheating. It is a false economy to wait too long to change them so get in touch and we will make sure you have the right bearings at the right price!

We supply cutlass bearings to anywhere in the Med, including Turkey, Greece, Malta, Croatia, Israel, Egypt, etc.

We have full machining capabilities to reduce outside diameters, cut bearing lengths, or add threads to bearings, usually same day.

Marine Control — FAQs

1. What materials are cutlass bearings available in?

Marine Control stocks cutlass bearings in three materials: brass, GRP (glass-reinforced plastic), and phenolic. Each material suits different vessel types and operating conditions. Their full Exalto range covers all three, and the team can advise which material is right for your shaft and usage.

2. Which brand of cutlass bearings does Marine Control supply?

They exclusively stock Exalto bearings, a UK manufacturer known for extremely strict quality control and ABS certification. Exalto is widely regarded as the most respected European manufacturer of cutlass bearings, giving you confidence in long-term reliability.

3. What shaft sizes are available?
Stock sizes range from 25mm all the way up to 5½-inch shaft diameters. Bearings come in fully metric (e.g. 80 × 100mm), fully imperial (e.g. 2″ × 3″), or mixed metric/imperial combinations (e.g. 80mm × 4 inch). Note that a measurement looking slightly unusual — like 76.2mm — is likely an imperial size in disguise (3 inches), so it’s worth double-checking before ordering.
4. How long do cutlass bearings typically last?
Cutlass bearings generally last between 3 and 5 years. It is recommended to check them every time the boat comes out of the water. A worn bearing allows the propeller shaft to move, which can cause vibration or overheating — waiting too long to replace them is a false economy.
5. Can Marine Control modify bearings to fit my vessel?
Yes. Marine Control has full machining capabilities in-house. They can reduce outside diameters, cut bearings to specific lengths, or add threads — usually completed the same day. They can also come to your boat to help measure and confirm the correct size before any work is done.
6. Do they supply bearings outside of Mallorca?
Yes. Marine Control supplies cutlass bearings across the wider Mediterranean region, including Turkey, Greece, Malta, Croatia, Israel, Egypt, and beyond. Their aim is same-day delivery for local customers, with fast dispatch for those further afield. Contact them at info@marine-control.com or +34 629 144 202 for a quote.
